WHAT TO TASTE

National Cuisine

Armenia is a country of traditional dishes, where recipes are a treasured family secret, passing on from one generation to another. It is a place where chefs keep interpreting and experimenting with the traditional recipes in the kitchen, creating experiences instead of ordinary meals.

There are many restaurants not only in Yerevan but also in other cities of Armenia, where you can find traditional dishes. So prepare yourself for a full dinner with a glass of Armenian brandy, delicious dishes, and sweets. And keep in mind the names of meals, like Lavash, Tolma, Harissa, Zhingyalov hats, and Khash, when going through the menus of restaurants, to make sure you try them.

And even if you have your meal at the houses of the locals, prepare your stomach for a big treat with lots of traditional flavors, which will leave you speechless and craving for more.

Winemaking Traditions

Big news for wine lovers! One of the cornerstones of Armenian culture is its winemaking tradition. The Bible states that the beginning of winemaking on the territory of modern Armenia goes back to when Noah first planted a vine at the foot of Mount Ararat after the Big Flood.

There are several endemic grape varieties and boundless vineyards in Armenia, which are the main factors for the industry to flourish in the country. In recent years, however, the wine production thrived even more, with a large number of winery openings.

So if you're a wine lover, you can not only taste the Armenian wine but also take regional winery tours and learn some of the Armenian secrets of winemaking traditions.

Gastro Tours

One of the most delicious ways to explore Armenia is through its provincial cuisine - by taking gastro tours across the country and trying out the wide range of regional foods and drinks, as well as people who make them.

No matter if you are a meat-lover, vegetarian, or vegan, you won't stay hungry in Armenia because it is a country of all-year-round flourishing feasts with the seasonal organic harvest, exceptional greens, fruits and vegetables, nuts, cheese, and meat.
